DAY 2, highlight: Devin castle
Breakfast from 8.00. We start with sightseeing tour. This tour consists from 2hrs walking tour with a professional guide where you visit the highlights of the city such as Primate Palace (the largest palace in Bratislava where the Treaty of Pressburg in 1805 was signed), St. Martin Cathedral (one of the largest gothic construction of Bratislava where between the years 1563-1830 the coronations of 19 rulers including Austria-Hungarian empress Maria Theresa took place), Michael's gate - the only preserved gate from medieval times, Slovak National Theatre, City Hall, historical narrow streets, squares and lots more. You continure by minibus where you visit Slavin War Memorial (a cemetery is a place of reverence where 6845 Soviet soldiers are buried who perished during the liberation of Bratislava and its environs in April 1945), Bratislava Castle (an important fortified settlement at the end of the 9th century. The first written reference to Bratislava from 907 is related to this period). You also know more about life under communist regime and see buildings from communist era.
Lunch break & transfer to Devin Castle (built on the cliff (altitude of 212 meters) at the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers was an ideal place for a fort. Its owner could control the important trade route along the Danube as well as one branch of the Amber Road. That is why the site has been settled since the Neolithic and fortified since the Bronze and Iron Age. Later, both the Celts and the Romans built strong fortresses there..). Free Programm.
Dinner & overnight in Bratislava
DAY 3, highlight: Red Stone castle, Bojnice chateaux
Breakfast at 08.00. We will go along Small Carpathians (40min drive) to see the rennaissance Red Stone Castle. It is imposing and one of the best preserved castles in Slovakia. The castle mountains is first recorded in writing by the half of the 13th century. It is found 35 km northeast from Bratislava. The owners Fuggers had it rebuilt into a mighty fortress with a new bulwark system that had belonged to the top of the then military engineering. By the later adjustments, the castle was partially changed to a renaissance and baroque fortified scat. Later partial alterations had changed the castle's design to a Renaissance-Baroque fortified residence. Museum keeps rich collections of historical furniture and a gallery of paintings.
After the castle tour we go to the Beckov castle (40min drive), built in the 12th century like the royal defencive castle. More late it was restored like noble residence in renaissance style. After the fire in the 1729 the castle it was abandoned. The ruins of the castle in the 1996 were during the restoration consolidated and were rendered the public accessible. Lunch in the town.
After Lunch we go to Bojnice castle (1hr15min drive) - after many centuries and many owners, the 19th century saw castle's reconstruction into a chateau in the romantic style, inspired by chateau in the Loire valley in France. The last owner, count John Palfy was a great art collector, so you can enjoy this marvellous castle with its fully furnished interior.
Transfer to Trencin town (1hour drive). Dinner & overnight in Trencin
DAY 4, highlight: Trencin castle, Orava castle
Breakfast from 8.00. Trencin Castle - Trencin town (population 60000), one of the few towns in Slovakia that can boast of being a documented settlement stretching back to Roman times. An inscription on the castle rock is evidence that a Roman legion spent a winter here and set up a military camp known as Laugaricio.. Sightseeing around the town.
Transfer to Orava region, (2hrs 15min drive) to Oravsky Podzamok town. Orava castle visit is on programme. Little bit of history: Orava belongs to one of the most typical, natural and historical regions of Slovakia. Its territory was inhabited as early as in Primeval Age. A few solitary findings origin from Late Stone Age and from the Early Bronze Age. First historical mentions about Orava castle are dated in 1267...it is erected on the top of a 112 meters high limestone cliff. Open-air museum visit. Dinner & overnight in Orava region.
DAY 5, highlight: Spiss castle
Breakfast from 8.00. Transfer to Spiss region (2hours drive) and visit of Spiss Castle. It is not just an evidence of architectural development from the 12th to 18th century. With its area of 41 426m2 it is one of the largest castles in Central Europe.It is one of the largest medieval castle in the Central Europe. It had been mentioned by the 12th century as a regional castle. The main body of the castle was surrounded by a stone fortification in the first half of the 13th century. This enabled the castle to resist the raids of the Tatars in 1241. In the same century the fortifications was mainly strengthened by the Italian stonecutters who worked to the construction of the Spisska Kapitula. Of the 13th century it is a Romanesque palace, the gothic dwelling tower and a now non-existent Romanesque chapel.
The Spis castle is belonged to many owners. In 1464 it was property of the Zapolsky family, in the first part of the 16th century of the Thurzo family and the last proprietor after 1636 was the Csaky family until 1945. During a fire in 1780 the castle suffered extensive damage and was not reconstructed afterwards. From 1970 in the castle imposing jobs of restoration are carried out. In the restored part of the castle is situated the exposure of the history of the Spis castle and in the underground prison the torture instruments. In 1993 the Spis castle together with the surroundings (Spisske Podhradie, Spisska Kapitula, the church in Zehra) was enlisted into UNESCO World Heritage List. On the way back you visit Spisska Kapitula - a municipal cultural reservation, highlights are St.Martin Cathedral with its valuable interior, especially the Gothic altars, statues, tomb stones and bishop palace. After the castle tour we will visit Church of St. Ghost in Zehra, followed by lunch in a sheep farm. Spisske podhradie visit and transfer to Levoca takes around 20min. Dinner & overnight in Levoca.
DAY 6, highlight: Old castle, New castle in Banska Stiavnica
Breakfast from 8.00. Transfer to Banska Bystrica (2hrs drive). Sightseeing tour around the Old City Centre, climb up on the clock tower and enjoy amazing view on a main square & surrounded area. You'll visit museum of Slovak National Uprising, as the Slovak National Uprising started exactly here in Banska Bystrica, 29 August 1944, uprising against the entry of Wehrmacht ( the Nazis ) to our land. Lunch and transfer to Banska Stiavnica , (47km/29miles), a mining town, listed in UNESCO. Welcome to the land of miners ! The glorious history of Banska Stiavnica started with the year 1238 when it was bestowed the privileges of a royal town.
We will visit here the Old Castle, New Castle, a mining museum & Knocking tower. Great souvenir shops is located on the main square Around 02.00pm lunch in a historical centre. On request you can visit mining shaft with an experienced guide ( whole trip takes around 2hrs ).
Transfer to Bratislava (2hrs drive) the capital of Slovakia. Dinner & Farewell, you'll give pictures of your holiday on CD, a great bottle of wine Made in Slovakia. Overnight in Bratislava.
DAY 7, Farewell
Breakfast from 8.00. Free program until departure. Transfer to the airport.
