Museum of Orava village

Go back in time and take a walking tour through skanzen called Museum of Orava village. Enjoy reading!

In Slovakia, you can find practically in every region open-air museums which we call simply as “skanzeny”. (Singular is skanzen). I love the museum of Orava village as it is beautifully located in the untouched green nature in the Western High Tatras from one side, from the other side in the Orava region.

The main reason to build such museums is to show to the visitor a life of previous centuries in the different villages of the region. All objects from all over the Orava region have been transported to this museum, simply most of the houses were brought from their original owners and rebuilt here.

Easy to get here, simply follow Zuberec village, then another 5minutes by car through the forested road. More info about opening hours and entrance fees is HERE.

Malaysia is a country unlike any other: Full of promise and fragility. Its history, cultural and religious diversity make it a rich, compelling and surprising land.

Another Malaysian quality is its multiethnic influences with its predominant native Malay, Chinese and Indian cultures all live side by side together in peace and harmony. This mixture has influenced both the cultural diversity and the varied cuisine of Malaysia. It is no wonder that Malays love celebrating and socializing. As a people, Malaysians are very relaxed, warm, and friendly.

Let’s cross the bridge over Studeny potok (Cold stream) and get to the other side of the riverbank called HORNOORAVSKA ULICA (Upper Orava street) & Goralske lazy (Goral mountain hamlets).
You can visit a mayor’s house, wooden church, cemetery, and other objects.

Don’t forget that there is a KOLIBA – a traditional Slovak restaurant next to the museum offering all typical Slovak specialties. Try “Bryndzové halušky” (potato dumplings with sheep cheese and bacon), “Strapačky” (potato dumplings with saurkraut) and many more;)

What else to see once you’re in this area?

Prosiecka valley – offers you lovely walking-hiking possibilities
Kvacianska valley – truly wonderful easy-to-moderate hiking tour
Orava castle – 30min by car, a mighty fortress with a long history
