Less than an hour drive from Bratislava, we can admire Nitra, one of the oldest Slovak towns. We’ll start our Quality Walking Tour with a visit of the Nitra Castle, the dominant standing above the town built in the 11th century on the site of a former Slavic fort, the seat of the Nitra Princedom and Great Moravian rulers. Today it is the seat of the Bishopric of Nitra. Visit of the oldest surviving part of the Cathedral – the Romanesque Church of St Emeram.
We’ll walk to Nitra Calvary, a historic significant pilgrimage site for Catholics, offering spectacular panoramic city views and the Zobor mountains.
Tasty lunch break in the town. Enough time to try tasty Slovak beer or wine from the area as well as some Slovak specialties. We talk about the Great Moravian empire and its rulers, St. Cyril & Methodius priests, and a lot more.
On the way back to Bratislava, stop and visit of Church of St. Michael the Archangel, one of the oldest churches in Slovakia, dating back to 11th century
Our professional and passionate Guide-driver will get you overview of history of Slovakia with focus on 20th century (WW1, Czechoslovakia, WW2, CSSR, Communism, Velvet revolution and Velvet divorce and present-day life).
