Skalica Town

Only an hour from busy Bratislava is located a lovely little town Skalica, it attracts visitors with lots of interesting sights, nature and Skalica Red wine called Rubín červený, Skalica sweet cake called Skalický trdelník. Skalica, a former royal town, in the 17th century used to belong among the top 5 most important towns, nowadays, we can admire the beautifully restored heart of the city center, triangle-shaped square with its dominant – parish church of St. Michael, all architectural styles scattered around and even the oldest Romanesque Rotunda of St. George. Kremnica Town

It was king Charles Robert in the 14th century who gave privileges to free royal and mining towns. A special privilege was that of coinage. The mint of Kremnica, – the world oldest still running mint. The mint of Kremnica also produced the ducats, which were highly praised for their quality and beauty and joined the most favorite coins in Europe. We walk around the town square and admire its dominance – the castle and the gothic church of St. Catherine. Baroque Trinity Pillar. A visit to the museum of coins and medals gives us more information about the craft of coinage and its tradition in Kremnica. Get a comprehensive History lesson not only about mining and minting. Driny Cave – Underground Pearl of Small Carpathians

Situated less than an hour from Bratislava in Small Carpathian hills, the only accessible cave in Western Slovakia. Discovered in 1930 boasts lavish dripstone ornamentation. There are over 450 m long tracks opened for visitors, a tour in the cave takes 35 minutes. Special attention deserves the phenomenon called ”the sinter curtains” The most beautiful dripstone form of this cave is called the Elephants Ears. The name obviously suggests its shape. Truly enjoyable cave in a beautiful location. And of course, you can enjoy your Guide-driver who will introduce you to Slovakia and have lots of fun with him. On the way back to Bratislava, lunch break in Small Carpathian Mountains (optional) to try Slovak delicacies.

Cachtice Castle

Only 75min from Bratislava, in the beautiful Carpathian mountains, high above the village lies a ruin of Cachtice castle – the royal castle defending the western border of the Kingdom of Hungary. Once the residence of the “bloody countess Elizabeth Bátory” who lived at the turn of the 16-17th century. Why she was nicknamed the bloody countess and how she wanted to stay young and beautiful? We take you to a romantic fairy-tale Bojnice chateau completely reconstructed in the 19th century, the work of the last Count, Jan Palfy a great art collector, assembled excellent works of art and created unique decoration. Being accessible to the public, Palfy`s wish was respected and the “French Loire style” castle exposes impressive furniture, paintings, oriental art and reveals interesting facts, myths & legends. Devin Castle

Only 15 min. away from Bratislava’s Old Town, lies a once-mighty fortress Devin Castle with its strategic position on a cliff above the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers. It was settled by various cultures since Neolithic times, among them the Celts and Romans. The first written record comes from 1223 when it was seized by the Austrian Duke Friedrich II. In 1635, the ownership of Devin castle passed onto the Palfy family. Later, the castle lost its strategic purpose and fell into ruins. Its faith was sealed by Napoleon’s troops who blew it up in 1809. By walking up to a museum at the top, you can enjoy views of flowing rivers and Austrian farmland. You will thoroughly enjoy the views…and yes, the special Devin wine too. We’ll also visit the place where the former Iron Curtain cut Slovakia off from Austria during the Communist era and give you a brief overview.
