Hainburg and Carnuntum

Only 20 minutes from Bratislava, lies Hainburg, a little easternmost Austrian town. Admire 13century city walls with their bastions and gates. Vienna gate is the largest still existing gate in Europe. It was this town where famous Austrian composer Joseph Haydn came as a six-year-old boy to learn the rudiments of music from his relatives. To commemorate him, there is a Haydn fountain on the main square.

Wachau Valley

Less than 2hrs from Bratislava lie a World Heritage site – Wachau valley, the spectacular landscape along the Danube River, known for its wine and many renaissance little towns, historical castles, and churches. Our first stop is in the little town of Durnstein. Short walk around and climb up to the castle ruin. The views on the meandering Danube river are just stunning.
